Microwave Supported Solvent Free Reaction of EMME in the Synthesis of Pyrazolopyrimidopyrimidines

Diethyl ethoxy-methylenemalonate the versatile reagent used to synthesize pyrazolopyrimidopyrimidines (3) as antimicrobial agents from the reaction between EMME and 1-substituted 3-(methylthio) 3H-pyrazolo [3,4-d]pyrimidine-4-amines (1) using Gould Jacob reaction. A comparison of conventional and microwave supported solvent-free reaction has been studied.

Nutritional Compositions of Selected Green Leafy Vegetables in Oyo State, Nigeria

The nutritional compositions of selected green leafy vegetables obtained from major towns in Oyo State, Nigeria, (March and April) were determined using standard analytical methods for proximate analysis. The following nutrients in percentage were determined; moisture contents, ash, fat, crude fibre and crude protein. The green leafy vegetable used are Talium triangulare, Amaranthus hybridus, Launaena taraxacifolia Ocimum gratissimum, Celosia argentea, Cucuribita maxima, Abelimoschus esculentus, Solanum macrocarpon, Vernonia  amygdalina  and Sesamum indicum. All nutrients were present in appreciable quantities. Moisture contents ranged from 5.33 ± 0.06% - 8.33 ± 0.06%, ash (23.07 ± 0.06% - 61.27 ± 0.06%), fat (1.13 ± 0.06% - 3.37 ± 0.06%), crude fibre (2.43 ± 0.12% - 22.03 ± 0.06%), and crude protein (18.50 ± 0.10% - 55.23 ± 0.06%). The functional properties of vegetables were close in term of high protein level indicating that they are more nutritious. Also, the level of their ash content showed that the vegetables are very rich in essential minerals for healthy life when compared with one another and recommended dietary allowance (RDA). Thus, there is a need for farmers in the area to engage in dry season vegetable production so as to ensure availability of leafy vegetables throughout the year.

The Reaction of Aza Michael Catalyzed by Zeolite Cu-ZSM-5 under Solvent-Free Conditions

The study is carried out to test the catalytic efficiency of Cu-ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst on the reaction of Aza Michael under solvent-free conditions, at room temperature this reaction is most exploited in organic chemistry, b-amino -esters, ketones, nitriles are useful for the preparation of several natural bioactive products, antibiotics, and chiral auxiliaries, through the use of the porous material catalyst (zeolite Cu-ZSM-5), and the reaction of Aza Michael addition a series of amines on α, β-unsaturated methyl acrylate, we have synthesized new cc or c-heteroatom products, these compounds is an attractive area of researchers in synthetic organic chemistry, and we have developed new synthesis methodologies for the preparation of these products.

The reaction was carried out with favourable conditions: ambient temperature, and without solvent, that the products, which are synthesized, gave us a high yield, and excellent chemoselectivity.

Isotherm Studies of Adsorption of Methylene Blue by Palm Kernel Shell

The main aim of this work is determine the feasibility of palm kernel shell (PKS) with phosphoric acid impregnation to biosorb methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution by carrying out isotherm studies of the process. The influence of various factors such as contact time, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, pH of dye solution and temperature were investigated in a batch adsorption technique. Result showed that adsorption of methylene blue (MB) dye was favourable at acidic pH. The percentage adsorption was found to increase with time of agitation, temperature, and mass of adsorbent but decreased with increase in initial MB concentration. In order to obtain a suitable model for the MB adsorption process, obtained data were fitted into different isotherm models like Langmuir and Freundlich models. Results showed that Freundlich adsorption isotherm model best describe MB adsorption onto palm kernel shell (PKS).

Novel Cationic Polyurethane Surfactants Containing Saturated Chains- Part 1: Synthesis, Characterization and Surface Activity

Novel cationic polymeric surfactants were synthesized throughout the reaction of monoester of triethanol amine and two saturated fatty acids (palmitic acid and stearic acid) and TDI (toluene diisocyanate). The obtained polyurethane (PU) then was reacted by acetyl chloride to yield the desired surfactants. The structures of the produced compounds were described by using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and their average molecular weights. Silver nanocomposite of the prepared cationic PU surfactants were characterized via physical combination by chemically prepared silver nanoparticles. The structure of the silver composite was determined using: Ultra-violet spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) spectroscopy. The effect of the hydrophobic chains on the surface activities of the synthesized cationic polymeric surface active agents and their silver nanocomposite was studied.
